I truly hate writing negative reviews, but, the more that I read, the more annoyed I got.Ok, so the book is definitely aesthetic...A+ on that. However, the info is very subpar (and, quite frankly, horrible advice at times), so please do not use this as your "skincare bible". To give an example, one girl in the book says to use turmeric (cool, if you want to make your face an Oompa Loompa) with lemon juice for a mask...there are actually several lemon suggestions in the book. *NEVER NEVER NEVER* use lemon on your face! Its acidity level will sensitize your skin and irritate it. PLUS - it INCREASES your sensitivity to the sun making it easier to burn (and blister...for real). Not tips you should be putting out there if the book is literally about "getting the fuxk out of the sun" and sun safety. While this may work for a specific person, this is not something for the masses and it's irresponsible to put this information out there.Another contributor swears by vitamin C because she's aging in reverse (that's it...that's her whole segment - no recommendations or real context). Then, there's another that likes to do a face mask before the shower to rinse it off in there (ok, common sense). Plus, a doctor saying to use a carefully crafted skincare routine and eat healthily (obviously). Lauryn even talks about a clay mask with Swedish directions...but, doesn't even name the product. I'm guessing Lerosett?I truly thought this book was going to be GEMS ON GEMS; unfortunately, it's just a buuuuunch of jibber-jabber to fill pages and doesn't offer any value. I'm really disappointed because I expected so much more given her resources and connections.PS. Constantly calling skincare products 'so delicious' is super weird and cringe.--------Final Review Update - Finished Book 7/7/2021:Truly at a loss. Quite frankly, this book is written and formatted (so messy and inconsistent) at a high-school level in the guise of being labeled “digestible”. Honestly, this makes sense - this is *exactly* like getting your info from the popular & pretty girl in high school (you know, the one that people blindly follow because they want her to like them and think it’s “on the pulse”…an entire Regina George obsession situation, honestly). There is *SO MUCH* in this book that is factually inaccurate, all of the people included are hawking their products, and has constant repetitive info via her and the “influencers” - and all of which is basic common sense. Seriously, the book is so long because it’s constantly repeating *the same* (and often contradicting) information 4857485 times.Another annoyance - she also discusses her ice roller (which - also insane at that $69 price point…even given the custom build... a different story for a different day — and of course it has to be $69 to match with her obvious vulgar branding…again, very high school level) and she says on IG how her next product is a carrier/bag for it...but it says it comes with one in the book (it doesn't). Why would it not be included with the product? People openly wanted this WITH the roller. *THIS SCREAMS money-grabber* — her book, her TSC products (also, including their other brand of WOO vibrator in the pics…skin related how??), the types of people she surrounds herself with/promotes (some of these people are truly problematic and morally reprehensible)…I’m sorry, it leaves a bad taste - so, it’s all a super hard pass.It also needs to be said that her TSC oil is filled with 874598437 essential oils AND fragrance (Limonene, Linalool, Citral) - but promotes that it has "no artificial fragrance". IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT'S REAL OR ARTIFICIAL! This is a marketing tactic...along with "clean" and "natural" - there is *NO* industry-standard definition of either. This can be extremely irritating to skin (rash, bumps, blisters, itching, flaking)...especially if you have issues like eczema, acne, rosacea, etc. AKA MORE HYPERPIGMENTATION!!! $$$$$$ PS. synthetic does NOT equal bad...it can oftentimes be BETTER.If you want to actually learn and be skin savvy, Caroline Hirons, created an amazing skincare book.I am deeply passionate (and knowledgeable) about this subject and people being properly educated because it comes down to health; not just beauty. I write this review because I truly don't want people to follow bad advice and harm themselves. That's not okay. Lauryn is a pretty girl that can sell, but at what cost?Rocky Barnes said it best in her section: “Taking other people's advice on skincare can be dangerous”, and this book is the perfect example. I bought 2 copies and will return both because I cannot in good conscience even pass these along to someone else. Lauryn herself says throughout the book that she isn't an expert...so why do we need to hear from her and the mostly unqualified contributors? It's all sold as "my experience" without dictation that the anomaly is not the norm.I've followed TSC for many many many years (supporting every way I could - I loved her passion); unfortunately, there's definitely been a major shift and this is where my journey ends.—TLDR: If you want a book that is juvenile, factually inaccurate, repetitive…and see her friends hawk their products - this book is for you. Some good tips, but some not so good tips.
